Greetings from your home in Breckenridge!

Ski season is once again underway in the Colorado high country! The lifts began turning at Arapahoe Basin on Friday, October 13, with Loveland joining the fun on October 20. With the cooperation of the weather, Breckenridge Ski Resort will begin operations for the winter on November 10! New for this season is a six-person chairlift on Peak 10, which increases capacity by 25 percent. The ski resort has also made an investment in its non-skiing operations and will continue to operate elements of the Epic Discovery Park throughout the winter.

With opening day just around the corner, now is the time to think about lift access for any winter trips to Breckenridge you might have planned. If you are coming for a week-long ski trip, we suggest you consider a season pass. Passes are on sale until November 19, so act quickly before they are gone! Different options with varying restrictions are available from $559 to $899 for an adult. The Epic Pass at $899 offers unlimited access to all of Vail Resorts’ North American ski resorts and is a perfect option if you are also considering multiple trips around the world! The Summit Value pass is a more economical option at $559 but does have restricted days at Breckenridge centered around the different holidays.

If you miss the window for buying a pass or are only considering more limited days, discounted lift tickets can be secured by purchasing them online in advance of your trip—the further ahead you purchase, the better the pricing. As snow begins to accumulate, we hope that you will be able to join us for Day Use or Bonus Time to enjoy some turns on the mountain!

Here are a few things happening around the resort:

  • Christy Sports will resume winter operations November 10, coinciding with the opening of the mountain. They offer a ski valet service for owners, overnight tunes and a full-service rental selection.
  • As part of the ongoing biannual deep cleans, the woodwork throughout the units is being conditioned with very positive results!
  • The parking spaces in the garages and across the property have been restriped with a high-visibility paint. A few tight spaces have been realigned to ensure appropriate spacing as well.
  • Thank you to all who joined us for our annual meeting, which was hosted at Beaver Run Resort on Saturday, October 21. Mark your calendar for October 20, 2018, for the 2018 annual meeting.

Along with changes around the resort, there were recently some changes to the Bonus Time policy. The process of reserving Bonus Time at Grand Timber Lodge has been simplified in an effort to offer a more owner-friendly experience. Based on availability, you can now reserve weekday Bonus Time 30 days in advance! Weekdays are defined as Sunday through Thursday nights. Weekend Bonus Time rates are available 14 days in advance for Friday and Saturday nights and are also subject to availability.

In addition, Bonus Time rates have been raised due to the increased operational expenses incurred during each stay. It has been several years since the last Bonus Time rate increase, and these changes help to keep your HOA dues lower. The chart below outlines the new Bonus Time rates, excluding fees and taxes.

Greetings from beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado!

We have enjoyed a beautiful fall up here in the high country but are excited for the snow to start falling! Weather conditions permitted raft trips through Brown’s Canyon all the way until September 4, with the first snowfall coming on the 16th, just a few days later! As our summer activities and events begin to conclude with the cooler weather, winter is just around the corner.

The Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival is taking place once again this year on October 20-22. The Grand Tasting will be held at the Riverwalk Center on October 21 at 4 p.m. Admission provides a complimentary tasting glass, delicious craft spirits tasting, craft cocktails, people’s choice voting, artisanal snacks and live music!

Please join us for a week full of fun, Halloween-themed activities the last week of October. Our Activities staff is currently putting together a list of fun activities that we will be hosting, and we look forward to seeing everyone’s costumes as we hand out candy at each designated location around property!

October marks the start of our biannual deep cleans and maintenance weeks. This work will be completed from September 29 – November 19. During this time, deep cleaning and other repair projects will be completed around the resort, as we look to maintain the property in superb condition. As part of this, we expect a few closures of our pools:

  • November 1 – Building 5 pool will be closed for the day
  • November 8 – Building 1 pool will be closed for the day

Here are a few other things happening around the resort:

Refresh Spa has introduced new services to their menu, including a sports massage and a nourishing scalp treatment. They offer weekly specials, so follow them on Facebook or stop by to enjoy one of their relaxing services during your next visit to Breckenridge.

Work is in progress to add a new amenity to the resort: a new library will be located in Building 2! The library will be a comfortable, quiet area to enjoy an assortment of books, complete some work, or just relax. Look forward to this amenity opening towards the end of the month!

As temperatures dropped below freezing, our landscaping irrigation system has been prepared for winter. This work has been completed earlier this year, as we hope to minimize any damage that the freezing temperatures can cause to the system.

Greetings from your family at Grand Timber Lodge!

It is hard to believe that schools around the country are back in session and the fall season is upon us! As the leaves begin to change color and the temperatures start to fall, the calendar of events in Breckenridge is beginning to heat up.

Oktoberfest is a fall tradition that many of our owners and guests have enjoyed over the years. Despite the name, the event closes down Main Street from September 8 to 10! While lederhosen are of course encouraged, the weather is usually warm enough for shorts and the usual Summit County summer attire.

For those who prefer wine to beer, the following week brings the Breckenridge Wine Classic to town. Owners with Breckenridge Grand Vacations can enjoy a 25 percent discount at the event using the promo code “BGVOWNER.” The event is not only about wine, as there are over 100 featured food artisans, distilleries, breweries, and wineries participating in the experience, offering everything from tastings to cooking demonstrations.

Rounding out the month is the film fanatic’s dream: the Breckenridge Film Fest. As this event has gained recognition, the films debuted and presented at the film fest have increased in quality. Films range from short five-minute videos to full-length feature films. This year, over 61 films in all genres are set to be shown to make for a great family experience.

I would be remiss not to mention that these wonderful fall events are accentuated by the natural beauty that the fall colors bring to town. While a daily drive around Breckenridge can be breathtaking in itself, no fall season is complete without a drive over Independence Pass into Aspen. The descent brings you through mature aspens that tower over the road and immerse you in their brilliance. As we look forward to fall, here is a sampling of what we have been up to around the resort:

  • Our fitness facilities have received a face-lift! The room has a new color palette, additional TVs, and a new arrangement that all create a more enjoyable experience. In doing so, we were able to add a new sit-up bench to the selection of equipment.
  • Do you remember how to play chess? There is now an outdoor chess set located near the fire pit, with a king that’s almost two feet tall! We have also updated our giant Jenga and bean bag toss sets to match.
  • We joined some of our neighbors in landscaping the median on Snowflake Drive. The median has been cleaned up and trimmed back, making it safer to enter Kings Crown Road.
  • The Lodgepole Bar and Grill has introduced a new drink menu, highlighted by an all-new margarita!
  • Don’t miss the Grand Timber Lodge Annual HOA Meeting! It will be held on Saturday, October 21 at 1 p.m. at Beaver Run.

On the afternoon of Wednesday, July 5, the beautiful summer season in Breckenridge was interrupted by the Peak 2 Fire. The fire was reported at about 11:00 a.m. by a mountain biker who observed smoke in the area. Firefighting teams immediately responded, but had to hike for about an hour before they reached the scene. In the meantime, a team of smoke jumpers had been dispatched and arrived at the fire around the same time as the ground crew.

At the time, Summit County had seen very little precipitation, with the most notable moisture falling as snow several weeks prior. These dry conditions, along with patches of trees infested by mountain pine beetles, enabled the wind to spread the fire quickly. For a period between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., the fire spread in the general direction of Breckenridge and made for some stunning photographs. Although the residential neighborhood of Peak 7 was placed under an evacuation order, we are pleased to share that none of the Breckenridge Grand Vacations family of resorts were affected by the evacuation.

Nonetheless, the team at Grand Timber Lodge leapt into action, following our Wildland Fire Evacuation Plan to notify our guests and protect our beautiful resort. Immediately, guests noticed an uptick in irrigation as the sprinklers around the property were activated to increase the relative humidity around the resort. Housekeeping scoured the resort to close as many windows as possible to decrease the possibility of smoke damage, and engineering prepared to shut down any mechanical systems as needed. The Front Desk team, as you might imagine, began receiving phone calls and worked to answer as many questions as possible as we received pertinent information.

Just after 4:00 p.m., we were blessed by a complete shift in the wind. The wind shift, coupled with efforts from the firefighting team, pushed the fire back onto itself and nearly halted the spread of it. At that time, the fire had burned about 82 acres in the Miner’s Creek drainage along the Peaks Trail. Continued cooperation from the weather and incredible work from a Type 1 Incident Team contained it to just 84 total acres.

As we’ve looked back at the events of that day, we have identified learning opportunities and ways to update our emergency plans. We will be looking for additional ways to make information available to our owners and guests, who may not be familiar with the local emergency communication system. We thank all our owners and guests for their cooperation during this stressful experience and hope that they were able to resume enjoying their vacations!

Aside from the excitement of the Peak 2 Fire, here is what has been going on across the resort:

  • The Front Desk has introduced a new paperless check-in process. This helps to save paper and eliminates back-end redundancies. Better yet, you can complete the entire registration card prior to your arrival by following a link sent in the confirmation email a week before you arrive!
  • New lamps have been installed in all living areas, completing the upgrade of the living room furniture.
  • The wall near the indoor hot tub of Building 5 received a new stone veneer. The repair fixed the damaged stucco and it looks fantastic!

Greetings from your family at the Grand Timber Lodge!

Summer season is in full swing throughout Breckenridge! The lupines around the resort are in full bloom and weather has been beautiful for all of the area’s summer activities. A wide array of outdoor games is available for enjoyment around the pool area, with supplies available from the Front Desk for those relaxing days around the resort.

On July 5, a wildland fire was spotted on Peak 2 in Breckenridge. This fire spread over 87 acres and lead to pre-evacuation measures for some areas within Breckenridge. With the help of local and federal resources, we are happy to report the fire is 85 percent contained and no longer represents a threat to the town or public. We are extremely grateful for the amazing job the firefighters and community did to keep all of its guests and residents safe.

In an effort to better serve our guests, the Concierge is now available to help you book any off-site excursions and adventures. With hours from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily, the Concierge is here to answer any questions you may have about activities, from whitewater rafting to horseback riding. Booking activities through the Concierge can save you anywhere from five to ten percent, depending on the vendor!

Additionally, here are a few things that have been going on around the property:

  • Refresh Spa has introduced new services at the Building 5 pool area! You will be able to enjoy a spa treatment in this beautiful outdoor setting. Give them a call at 970.547.3624 for details and availability.
  • With the Concierge helping to book off-site adventures, our Activities team is busy introducing new activities around the resort! Look for Game of Drones and other events as they are added to our calendar each week.
  • The exterior of Buildings 3 and 4 has received a fresh coat of paint. Thank you to the guests who experienced this disruption. We seek to ensure that our resort is well-maintained for years to come.
  • The Game Room in Building 2 has been closed for some much-needed upgrades. The bumper pool table and Wii have found new homes around the resort in the meantime, and we look forward to these exciting enhancements being available toward the end of summer!

Happy summer from your family at Grand Timber Lodge!

Our visitors though the month of May were not only of the human species, as we were treated to a few visits from the local moose! Our neighborhood fox has also made his return as the weather warms up. Although these guests are truly memorable, remember that they are wild animals and we should be careful to give them enough space for our own safety as well as theirs. No worries about getting close enough to see them: our Activities staff gets beautiful pictures from afar and shares them regularly on our Facebook page!

New for visitors to Breckenridge this summer is the greatly enhanced Breckenridge Epic Discovery program, which opens June 9! Epic Discovery features adventure and educational opportunities for families and visitors of all ages. Incorporating the great amenities of the Peak 8 Fun Park, this new program has also added a thrilling zipline that can reach speeds in excess of 60 MPH! Please stop by the Concierge Desk for more details.

Here is a taste of what has been going on around the property:

  • New living room furniture has been installed throughout the entire resort. We hope that you will enjoy the two chairs in the living room, along with the memory foam mattress on the sleeper sofa. Look for the new lamps, arriving some time in June!
  • Window replacement in Building 2 is also complete, save for a few small items that will be buttoned up in the warmer weather. Even though we replaced over 72 windows and 30 balcony doors, only one dumpster was taken to the landfill! The remaining removed items have found new life as shelter at the community gardens, keeping the young plants warm overnight.
  • Working with our friends at the Grand Lodge on Peak 7, we have been able to breathe new life into the Day Use room! The area now features wooden tables and a comfortable seating area, so you may relax or enjoy a comfortable meal during a day trip to the property.
