Where is Isak Heartstone?

Isak Heartstone, a 15-foot wooden troll, is located on Trollstigen Trail in Breckenridge!

Isak was originally built as part of the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts by the Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Thomas is known for bringing awareness to recycling and upcycling by building great things out of trash, worldwide.

Route Type: Out & Back

Isak Heartstone can be found after a short .25 mile hike on Trollstigen Trail. This trail can be found by the Illinois Gulch trailhead which is located in the southeast corner of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot. When you arrive in the parking lot, follow the troll footprints on the pavement to the trailhead!

This is a foot traffic-only trail. Bikes are not allowed on this trail.

Trollstigen Trail Rules:

  1. Leave No Trace: Take only photos and leave only footprints. There are no trash cans along the trail, please take out anything you bring on the trail.
  2. Dogs Must Remain on Leash: In order to keep the Isak and the trail in good condition, please pick up after your animals. People don’t like to see dog poo and Isak doesn’t want to be peed on!
  3. Stay on the Trail: There is only one way to see the trail and the trail is one-way directional. Please stay on the trail to respect others’ property.
  4. Show Respect to Isak and Others: We want to make sure that Isak sticks around for a while to come. Please avoid climbing on Isak!
  5. Drone photography/videography is prohibited. Please respect the town of Breckenridge ordinances.
