Fairy Forest Hike

Looking for a new, magical adventure on your next visit to Breckenridge? Find your way to the hidden Fairy Forest! Located between Peaks 8 and 9, this three-mile hike is a great activity to do with kids and see some unique fairy house creations.

The Fairy Forest is always growing, and you are welcome to create and leave your own Fairy House for future Fairy Forest visitors to see and enjoy. Currently, Grand Timber Lodge and the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 activity departments are offering Fairy House decorating plus the hike. Be sure to contact them for more details about creating your very own Fairy House.

Hiking Directions:

  1. Start at the Sawmill Trail at Snowflake ski lift. This easy trail follows a stream up about 1.5 miles.
  2. At the top of Sawmill Trail, you’ll cross a couple of bridges and then go up a staircase. Then you’re at the top, and right in front of you will be Sawmill Reservoir. Take a break at the lake!
  3. Take an immediate right at the end of Sawmill Trail and hike up just a bit. Take the second right (there will be a Fairy Forest sign posted on a tree at the turn).
  4. You’ll encounter a boardwalk that will take you across the creek.
  5. Once across the creek and off the boardwalk, turn right onto Four O’ Clock Trail (keep following the Fairy Forest signs).
  6. Take the trail that veers to the left and head up the hill under a ski lift. You’ll head across an open hill and you’ve arrived at the Fairy Forest!
