Letter from the General Manager
Breckenridge opened early for the first time in nearly a decade. As we start the season off with record-breaking snow, it is safe to say Ullr has answered our prayers and given us an amazing kickoff to the season. Thank you, Ullr! The mountain is definitely in full swing, with people enjoying taking turns and imbibing some après-ski beverages. January is a great month to keep the holiday spirit alive with all of the fun activities happening in Breckenridge.
Celebrating its fifty-fifth year this month, Ullr Fest is back again January 9-12. Come one, come all to an amazing weekend filled with horned Viking hats and fur coats as we celebrate all things Ullr! Take part in the world’s largest shot ski, retire your Christmas trees and throw them into Breckenridge’s huge bonfire, watch the parade, where you can see snowboarders hitting jumps on Main Street and floats pulling hot tubs filled with partygoers, and finally show your dedication to Ullr by participating in the Ullr Ice Plunge! Join locals and tourists from all over as more than twelve thousand people will fill the streets for this “snowtastic” event!
If you are looking for some indoor activities this month, swing over to Beaver Run for the Big Beers Belgians & Barleywines Festival the weekend of January 10-12! Take some time there to thank the brewers from near and far for their wonderful libations. Events and activities include the brewer’s reception, a calibration dinner, the cicerone workshop, a homebrew competition and some cigar pairings. Make sure to toast Ullr as you enjoy a cold one.
And don’t forget the International Ice Sculpture Championship January 21-30 presented by Breckenridge Brewery. Watch as people compete by hand carving 25-ton ice blocks into beautiful artworks. Teams from around the globe will show off their talents and their 96 hours of work across a five-day span. Stop by and admire the enormous creations these teams create.
Here’s what’s been happening at GTL:
- We are excited about the opening of our new Grand Timber Market. This market, which replaces the one run by the Lodgepole, is located next to the Front Desk. Next time you are on property, make sure to stop by to grab a quick snack or drink! If you have any suggestions for additional items to keep in stock, please let us know.
- Our new Fitness Center has opened! This new 700-square-foot room includes some new equipment and features a more inviting feel than the previous location. You can find the Center in the Building 6 hallway where the Activities Center and Arcade used to be. Make sure to stretch before getting your swoll on!
- Our new Activities Center is in the old Fitness Center’s location. Its central placement allows our guests to find and participate in all the fun daily activities more easily. Our Activities Department has planned many entertaining new activities for the winter, so make sure to stop by and ask about them when you are in town.
- We have a new restaurant! “The Boot” has finally opened! It features a delicious menu, exemplary service and an amazing happy hour. This fun après-ski saloon also offers a 10 percent discount to owners, so make sure to bring your owner card along when you come to wine and dine.
We welcome your feedback and suggestions on how to make Grand Timber Lodge a better place for you and your family. Please send ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration!
