Just imagine waking up, looking out the window and seeing a perfect powder day. You start getting all your gear ready and you realize that you forgot something important. A lot of things can slip your mind when you have ski fever! Breckenridge Ski Resort opening day is right around the corner, and we are ready to hit the slopes! To make sure you don’t leave ANYTHING at home and miss out on that snow day, here is a list of the Top 10 Things to Pack for a Ski Getaway!

1. Equipment

    • Boots
    • Skis/Snowboard
    • Ski poles
    • Helmet
    • Gloves
    • Goggles

At all of our properties (Grand Lodge on Peak 7, Grand Timber Lodge, Grand Colorado on Peak 8), we offer free equipment storage for our owners and guests.

2. Layers

  • Base layer – This is going to regulate your body temperature; it wicks away moisture. Pro tip: Avoid wearing cotton
  • Mid layer – Main source of insulation (wool or polyester)
  • Outer layer – Winter jacket, snow pants, warm socks, winter hat

3. Day Pack

Adventure is always knocking here in Breckenridge, so be prepared! Having a day pack on vacation is always a GRAND idea. You are going to want one that allows you to move and be active, but also make sure there is enough room for snacks, water, sunscreen and an extra layer!

4. Reusable Water Bottle

Do yourself and the environment a favor, pack a reusable water bottle. Here at Breckenridge Grand Vacations we have a high initiative for sustainability. Due to high altitude, hydration is critical. Remember to bring your reusable water bottle and fill up at a hydration station on and off the mountain!

5. Going Out Attire

After a day on the slopes, hit the town for some après. Breckenridge is a very laid back ski town, there is no need to get all dressed while you are here. Bring along warm and comfortable clothes like sweaters, jeans, leggings and long sleeve shirts.

6. Camera

You aren’t going to want to miss out on capturing all the special moments that happen on your ski getaway. Your phone may take great pictures, but having a camera you are going to be able to capture more of the beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Make sure you stop by the Activities Desk and ask about getting family photos done while you are here!

7. Warm Footwear

Having wet, cold feet is the quickest way to spoil your day. To avoid spoiling your day, be sure to bring along shoes that are comfortable and waterproof is a bonus. You are going to want to bring a pair of boots that have good tread that will help you navigate your way down the potentially slippery sidewalks.

8. Ski Tickets/Passes

Want first chair and fresh tracks? That powder isn’t going to last forever. To avoid the ticket office lines, make sure that you have your lift tickets and/or season pass.

9. Sunglasses and Sunscreen

Breckenridge is located at 9,600 feet, making the sun nearly 40 times stronger than at sea level. Make sure you pack eye protection with UVB protection and sunscreen. There is no bigger bummer than getting a sunburn on a winter vacation.

10. Swimsuit

There’s no better feeling than sitting in the hot tub after an awesome day on the slopes. The cold crisp air hitting your shoulders while the rest of your body soaks in the nice hot water giving you the ultimate feeling of relaxation.

Now that you have that packing list ready, it’s time to start packing! If you get to Breckenridge and realize you forgot something, don’t stress. Take a stroll down main street and I am sure you will find what you need plus some!

Have fun and we will see you out on the mountain!

I remember having to buy a suit at the Frisco Walmart after forgetting mine at home. It now is part of my ski duffel, in case it happens again.
