Sapphire Point Overlook is one of the most popular hikes in the county- and for good reason! The hike is easy enough for the whole family and offers stunning views of the Tenmile Range and Lake Dillon. If you are looking for a hike to do with the kids, only have enough time for something quick, or just want to take a scenic walk, Sapphire Point is perfect for you!
Sapphire Point Overlook is located at the top of Swan Mountain Pass, the road goes between Breckenridge and Keystone. At the top of the pass, you will see a parking area with about 20 or so spaces. This hike is very popular and the lot fills up quickly. Luckily, given the length of the hike, spaces become available frequently. Near the southwest end of the parking area, you will see the start of the trail!
The trail is nearly flat, with very minimal elevation gain throughout the 0.6-mile loop. The trail is very well maintained and would be easy to manage for hikers of all ages. After about 100 feet or so, you will arrive at the overlook point. This area is popular for watching chipmunks and birds, as well as admiring the stunning mountain and lake views. Weddings are often held at this beautiful spot!
After you admire the overlook views, the trail continues to loop around the top of Swan Mountain. There are benches along the way if you want to take a little break. Near the north side of the loop, there are a few picnic tables- a great spot for lunch with a view! As you continue around the loop, look towards the east for views of Grays and Torreys Peaks, two fourteener-foot mountains along the Continental Divide.
