Colorado Mountain Mushers Sled Dog Race

Colorado Mountain Mushers Sled Dog Race is returning to Summit County! This family-friendly race will use the Winter multi-use track at the Dillon Marina. In the 70s, Rocky Mountain Sled Dog Club, Colorado Mountain Mushers’ sister club, was responsible for having over 100 teams on the ice. Spectators are welcome! Please consider leaving dogs not participating at home. Keep all dogs on a leash and discourage dog introductions on race day to ensure a safe and fun race for all.

Leadville Skijoring

The Leadville Ski Joring event has been going on in Leadville since 1949 and is one of the premier events of its kind in the country. Ski Joring is a competition where a horse and rider pull a skier at a fast pace through a course that has gates, jumps, and rings. The skier is timed through the course, and penalties are assessed by missing gates or jumps and by missing or dropping the baton or any of the rings.

Imperial Challenge

The Imperial Challenge is the Breckenridge version of a triathlon! Competitors start the race from the Breckenridge Recreation Center, bike up to Peak 8, transition to uphill gear, and skin to the top of Peak 8 at 12,987 feet. The race’s final leg is a downhill ski to finish back at the base of Peak 7!

Copper Mountain Slush Rush and Sunsation

The legacy continues with Sunsation, the finest spring festival in all of the Colorado high country! Sunsation is a two day long spring celebration at Copper Mountain that features live band and DJ performances, revelry, and the Slush Rush! In the Slush Rush, skiers and riders alike are welcome to join in teams of three to compete in a relay race that combines several snow sport competition favorites—with a twist. Costumes encouraged.

FDRD & Ski With A Ranger

One of our most treasured local non-profit organizations, Friends of Dillon Ranger District (FDRD), offers a variety of programs to keep us learning and exploring all winter! Friends of Dillon Ranger District is a locally-based stewardship organization that, with the help of volunteers and collaboration with the US Forest Service, works for sustainable management of our local forest. FDRD is proud to provide free, on-hill cultural and natural history tours from January through March. Our trained Ski Rangers lead participants down a beginner or intermediate ski run, stopping periodically to discuss topics from local flora and fauna to geography and history and answering questions. These one-hour tours require participants to have a valid lift ticket or pass, intermediate skiing or riding ability, and a desire to learn — no pre-registration required.
